Newfoundland’s Matthew Byrne & Sherman Downey Team up for Eastern Canadian Tour
November, 2015
Tickets on sale now!

St. John’s, NL– After teaming up for a successful Winter Island Tour of story and song, Newfoundland & Labrador’s roots-rocker, Sherman Downey, and traditional singer, Matthew Byrne, are again combining old world charm and modern flair for an Eastern Canadian Tour, performing everywhere from Cape Breton to Toronto, with shows in New Brunswick, PEI, Quebec and rural Ontario this November.

“The Winter Island Tour around Newfoundland was so awesome and when we started chatting about suitable venues off the island for that show we realized how many great rooms we wanted to bring it to,” says Byrne. “We’re very excited about it.”

With two 2015 Canadian Folk Music Award nominations for Traditional Singer and Album of the Year, Byrne has earned a reputation as one of the finest traditional singers in Canada, whose ballads span generations and continents. The tremendous success of his sophomore recording Hearts & Heroes last year has taken him to concert stages all over Canada and the United States, while his role as singer and song-finder in The Dardanelles continues to showcase his talents to international audiences.

Winner of Newfoundland’s 2015 SOCAN Songwriter of the Year and MusicNL’s 2015 Pop/Rock Recording, Downey has been winning over critics and fans since his band Sherman Downey and the Ambiguous Case’s debut release, Honey for Bees (2010). The first single “Thick As Thieves,” from the band’s sophomore release Sun In Your Eyes (2013), earned the boys “Best New Act in Canada,” in the CBC Searchlight Contest, beating out over 3000 acts nation-wide. Last spring the band parted ways, yet Downey’s solo career continues to roar.

While they practice different musical disciplines, Byrne & Downey have a dynamic stage chemistry that demonstrates how the traditional and modern sides of folk music can be merged seamlessly.

“We had a blast last year touring around Newfoundland and quickly discovered we have a great personal and musical chemistry on stage,” says Downey. “It doesn’t hurt that the show is actually pretty kick-ass. We can’t wait to get out there and bring this show to new rooms and audiences.”

St. John’s, NL – The light softens this time of year. Autumn’s settles across Western Canada just as multi-award-winning American Bluegrass pioneer, Claire Lynch, embarks on her first tour through the prairies this October, where she stops everywhere from Dauphin, Manitoba to Calgary, Alberta, and beyond.

“This is our first organized and extensive tour of Western Canada. I imagine we will meet up with friends and acquaintances from Alberta and Manitoba, but I’ve never been to Saskatchewan or Calgary,” says Lynch, from her home in Nashville. “I’m really looking forward to exploring more of such a vast and beautiful place.”

With two Grammy nominations, three International Bluegrass Music Association Female Vocalist Awards and a United States Artists Walker Fellowship, Lynch has earned her keep in the tower of song. While Emmylou Harris hails Lynch as having the “voice of an angel,” Dolly Parton, whom Lynch has lent harmonies on several records, believes it’s her solo material that truly stands out. Parton trumpets, “She has one of the sweetest, purest and best lead voices in the music business today. I’m so happy to see her shine on her own.”

Named by DigitalJournal.com as one of the “10 best angelic voices of our time” alongside icons like Judy Collins, Sarah McLachlin and Alison Krauss, Lynch is a legend in her own right. Her live performances conjure a beautiful authenticity. She’s both timeless and original. Her latest albums Dear Sister and Holiday! are musical offerings of love, celebration and heartfelt connection. Lynch’s return to Western Canada crystalizes her legacy.

Lynch will be backed by the members of her white-hot Claire Lynch Band, which features soulful, young gun Bryan McDowell (fiddle-mandolin), twenty-something virtuoso Jarrod Walker (mandolin-guitar) and A-Lister Mark Schatz (bass-banjo).

Thane Dunn Announces NL Elvis Rockin Christmas Shows!

Award-Winning Elvis Tribute Artist Thane Dunn Brings
Elvis Rockin’ Christmas Show to Holy Heart Theatre
November 20 & 21
Tickets On Sale Now!

St. John’s, NL– Fans of Elvis Presley, get ready! Newfoundland’s favorite tribute to The King is returning this fall to recreate Rock ‘n’ Roll history like never before. International Elvis Tribute World Champion, Thane Dunn and his 8 piece Cadillac Kings, will take the stage at Holy Heart Theatre on November 20 & 21 with their brand new Elvis Rockin’ Christmas show.

The last time Dunn came to town, he performed three sold out shows as fans flocked to the theatre to experience first hand what it might have been like to see Elvis live in concert. Thane Dunn & The Cadillac Kings didn’t disappoint, with fans raving that Dunn was “as close to the real thing as you could get.”

His new show features Presley’s favourite Christmas classics from Blue Christmas to Silver Bells with hits like Blue Suede Shoes and Suspicious Minds thrown in the mix.

World renowned rock photographer, John Rowlands, who has photographed major stars from The Beatles to Bowie, will open both shows. In 1972, Rowlands was hired to photograph Elvis on tour, documenting 48 performances. He will speak of his adventures being on the road with The King, the infamous TCB band and Presley’s entourage. Rowlands is very charismatic and his stories of Rock ‘n’ Roll history leave audiences spellbound. He is donating a never-before-seen Elvis Presley print for online auction with all proceeds going to Daffodil Place.

“We are proud to support Daffodil Place. Cancer took my father and nearly took my wife 3 1/2 years ago,” said Dunn from his Moncton home. “I’ve been there and know how hard it is on families and that’s why we are glad to help.”

Winner of the World’s Largest International Elvis Tribute Artist Competition and the World’s Largest Elvis Gospel Competition, Thane has an uncanny ability to make audiences feel as if they’re actually watching The King himself. With his amazing Elvis-like voice and natural physical resemblance, Thane has been referred to as “the full Elvis package”. He has all the right moves, but what makes his show even more convincing is his charismatic personality and Presley-like sense of humour. His hair and sideburns are real, and so is his voice. Dunn wears exact replicas of the costumes popularized by Presley in the early 70’s and will don a $6000 copy of the Elvis Pharoah suit made specifically for the Newfoundland Elvis Rockin’ Christmas Show.

This world-class production is anchored by an eight piece band, The Cadillac Kings. These amazing musicians have Elvis TCB band’s sound down pat, and combined with Dunn’s voice, you would swear it was the real thing. There is even an onstage ‘right-hand-man’ who brings Thane his water, catches his guitar, passes him teddy bears, and puts scarves around his neck for the ladies. He stays very busy during this amazing show.

**With the purchase of a ticket, you are automatically entered in to win an original stuffed Hound Dog from the 1972 Elvis Summer Festival at the Las Vegas Hilton.

Matthew Byrne Announces Northeastern US Shows

For Immediate Release
Fri, Mar 13, 2015

Newfoundland Balladeer Matthew Byrne Announces Northeastern US Tour Dates
April 17-28, 2015

St. John’s, NL– Next month, 2015 East Coast Music Award nominee, Matthew Byrne, is bringing his stunning new album, Hearts & Heroes, across the Northeastern United States for a string of exclusive solo performances. Byrne, recently labeled “one of the finest interpreters of traditional song in this country” by Canada’s folk music bible, Penguin Eggs Magazine, is eager to bring this ‘new’ collection of old songs to folk and traditional enthusiasts in Maryland, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

Known to many as singer and bouzouki player of highly acclaimed trad band, The Dardanelles, Byrne has quickly earned his place as one of Atlantic Canada’s most authentic and vital traditional voices. He has toured nationally and internationally throughout the US, UK, and Australia.

“This is a really exciting tour for me,” says Byrne from his home in St. John’s, Newfoundland. “I’ve been down to the Northeastern US for several festivals, both solo and with The Dardanelles, but this will be my first proper solo tour. It’s an area that’s full of traditional music lovers as well as historical links with Newfoundland. I can’t wait to bring my new album to these audiences so I can share my stories and hear theirs as well.”

Following a family legacy of Newfoundland music makers, Byrne is strongly influenced by his unique musical lineage. He knows the tapestry of traditional songs equally weaves a great story with a beautiful melody. Stripped down, his live show offers powerful honesty, polished guitar work, masterful storytelling, and a voice that transports time, place, and oceans.

With songs that possess old world grace yet still sound fresh and new, Hearts & Heroes showcases Byrne at his finest. Produced by Billy Sutton in St. John’s, NL, this album combines traditional songs from Byrne’s family singing tradition with those he has sussed out himself from singers abroad. It is an album that translates seamlessly to the live stage, and is nominated at the upcoming East Coast Music Awards for Trad/Roots Solo Recording of the Year. It is an artfully crafted follow-up to his debut album Ballads, released in 2010.
