Acadian Folk Trio Vishtèn Ventures West
October, 2014 – Alberta & Saskatchewan
For over a decade, Vishtèn has been sharing the spirit and sound of Acadian traditional music with the world, and has become one of the most highly respected bands on the international touring scene. This October, the fiery Acadian folk trio will embark on a tour of Western Canada, taking the stage at venues across Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Twin sisters, Emmanuelle and Pastelle LeBlanc, were raised on Prince Edward Island and grew up in an environment where fiddle music and percussive dancing was a common part of everyday life. Similarly, Magdalen Islander Pascal Miousse’s home was a frequent meeting place for traveling fiddlers and music sessions. All three Vishtèn band mates are direct descendants of the first colonial families that inhabited their respective islands.
Vishtèn has been crafting their own trademark style that combines original compositions and traditional French-Acadian songs with driving rhythms. Their unique blend of fiddle, guitar, accordion, whistles, piano, bodhrán, jaw harp, and percussive dance, creates a show-stopping tour de force, weaving together traditional and contemporary sounds.
Since their formation in 2000, Vishtèn has released four albums, won numerous awards and have performed over a thousand times throughout Europe, Australia and North America. Their most recent record, Mosaïk, was released to high praise and earned the trio Francophone Recording of the Year at the 2013 East Coast Music Awards.
“We are thrilled to be heading out west again to play some shows which will feature songs and tunes from our newest album Mosaïk,” says Pastelle. “We’re looking forward to discovering new places where we haven’t toured yet and sharing our Acadian culture!”
With inspiration, deep respect, and a love for the sounds and rhythms forged by the musicians who came before them, Vishtèn continues to reinterpret the music of their parents, all the while creating a future heritage of new music – their own legacy to inspire musicians for generations to come.
